Built and furnished as a family home by the head of a rich banking family - with the hope to pass it along to his son. Passionate about the 18th century, Moïse de Camondo was an avid art collector, and his home and collection became his sole interest, especially after the death of his son Nissim in WWI. At his death, he bequeathed both to the state, with the express condition that everything be kept 'as is'.
