Home of the infamous French statesman Talleyrand, this Renaissance château is in the style of many Loire Valley châteaux (despite being in Berry). French writer George Sand wrote that it was 'one of the most beautiful places on Earth'.
A skilled politician, Talleyrand was able to navigate through the troubled times following the French Revolution. This was his 'country home' that he also used as a political tool, and many fallen princes lived there in a gilded cage.
Antonin Carême, the first 'chef', was in Talleyrand's service, who often conducted diplomatic affairs at Valençay, around one of Carême's meals.
