After surviving the nightmarish wait - seriously, you wonder if the system isn't totally useless on purpose, even after paying their booking charge of 4 euros, you still end up waiting over an hour with zero info, even when you arrive at 8.30am. Or maybe they just don't care, there are so many amazing things in this museum, they figure people will just come anyway and put up with it.
But I got my Botticelli fix! :-)
The Renaissance style palace, originally built by banker Luca Pitti, was bought by Eleonora of Toledo - wife of the Duke of Tuscany Cosimo I de Medici - in 1549, and later became the home of the grand ducal family, and their extensive art collections. While the entire palace is well worth the visit, my favourite were the rooms that house the Medici treasury and their 17th century frescoes.
